Abstract The organic matter (OM) of surface sediments (0–2 cm) from the Santos Basin was characterized by employing elemental (C, N, P), isotopic (δ 13C and δ 15N), biochemical (total carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids), and pigment (chlorophyll-a and phaeopigments) proxies, as part of the Santos Project – The Santos Basin Regional Environmental Characterization (PCR-BS) – coordinated by PETROBRAS. Samples were collected in a regional scale throughout the entire basin, including 11 isobaths from eight cross-margin transects ranging from 25 to 2,400 m water depths, and 12 additional samples obtained from the São Paulo Plateau. The aims of this study were two-fold, namely, to identify the major oceanographic and depositional processes driving OM transport and accumulation and to provide information on OM origin and availability to benthic secondary producers. The multiple employed proxies and the use of machine learning allowed to categorize distinct OM accumulation provinces displaying two major regional features: shallow sediments (< 50-m isobaths) are OM-poor (TOC < 2.0 mg g -1) but the available amount is readily hydrolysable, and mid-shelf deposits (75-m and 100-m isobaths) throughout the entire basin present muddy and OM-rich sediments (TOC ranging from 7.0 to 14.0 mg g-1) seemingly available to heterotrophs. Similarly, relatively OM-rich deposits are found at depths ranging from 700 to 1,300-m isobaths throughout the basin, but their composition and nutritional value (as suggested by biochemical indicators) are not related to mid-shelf deposits. The general overview of OM accumulation and composition provided herein validated the selected organic geochemical proxies for benthic ecology studies at the shelf and deep ocean sectors of the studied region.

RESUMO Objetivo: Refletir acerca da utilidade dos conceitos da Teoria da Maré no cuidado de enfermagem aos adolescentes em privação de liberdade. Método: Reflexão crítica da teoria, segundo avaliação proposta por Meleis, com foco no segmento utilidade da teoria, a partir do critério prática, segundo a unidade de análise aplicabilidade da teoria. Resultados: A Teoria da Maré compõe-se de conceitos que permitem a compreensão do contexto em que o adolescente em privação de liberdade está inserido e preparam o enfermeiro para a operacionalização da sua prática clínica voltada para este adolescente, viabilizando ao profissional observar os seus limites, como questões relacionadas à reinserção social, que exigem parcerias intersetoriais, e a necessidade de ancoragem em outras teorias. ABSTRACT Objective: To reflect on the usefulness of the concepts of the Tidal Model in nursing care for adolescents deprived of liberty. Method: Critical reflection of the theory, according to the evaluation proposed by Meleis, focusing on the usefulness of the theory, based on the practice criterion, according to the unit of analysis applicability of the theory. Results: The Tidal Model is composed of concepts that allow the understanding of the context in which the adolescent deprived of liberty is inserted and prepare nurses for the operationalization of their clinical practice aimed at this adolescent, enabling the professional to observe its limits, such as issues related to social reintegration, which requires intersectoral partnerships, and the need for anchoring in other theories. Final considerations: The concepts of the Tidal Model are useful and can be applied to the nursing care provided to adolescents in situation of deprivation of liberty, promoting the centrality of care for this adolescent. Resumo Introdução: De acordo com os estudos realizados em países desenvolvidos, indivíduos pós-acidente vascular cerebral (AVC) comumente apresentam baixo nível de atividade física. Considerando os benefícios desses indivíduos manterem um bom nível de atividade física, é importante fornecer informações específicas e completas a partir da avaliação de todas as dimensões da atividade física que guiem as intervenções. Objetivo: Comparar o nível de atividade física de indivíduos pós-AVC e saudáveis pareados, usuários do sistema público de saúde brasileiro, considerando as diferentes dimensões da atividade física. Métodos: Foram avaliados indivíduos pós-AVC (n = 11) e seus pares saudáveis (n = 11). O nível de atividade física, considerando as diferentes dimensões - duração (> 3 equivalentes metabólicos), frequência (número de passos) e intensidade (média do gasto energético total por dia) -, foi avaliado com o monitor SenseWear® por sete dias. Foram utilizadas estatísticas descritivas e comparações entre os grupos (α = 0,05). Resultados: O nível de atividade física foi significativamente menor nos indivíduos pós-AVC comparados aos seus pares saudáveis, considerando todas as dimensões. A diferença entre os grupos na duração, frequência e intensidade da atividade foi de 74 minutos/dia, 5274 passos/dia e 2134 kJ/dia, respectivamente. Conclusão: Indivíduos pós-AVC usuários do sistema público de saúde brasileiro têm menor nível de atividade física nas diferentes dimensões da atividade quando comparados aos seus pares saudáveis. A avaliação do nível de atividade física em indivíduos pós-AVC é importante para a tomada de decisões em programas de saúde pública.

Abstract Introduction: According to studies from developed countries, post-stroke individuals commonly have a low level of physical activity. Considering the benefits of maintaining a good level of physical activity in these subjects, it is important to provide specific and complete information, based on the assessment of all dimensions of physical activity, which supports interventions. Objective: To compare the physical activity levels between individuals with stroke and matched healthy individuals that use the public health system in Brazil considering the different dimensions of physical activity. Methods: Individuals with stroke (n = 11) and matched healthy individuals (n = 11) were assessed. Physical activity levels, considering all dimensions -duration (> 3 MET), frequency (number of steps) and intensity (mean total energy expenditure per day) - were assessed using SenseWear® monitor for seven days. Descriptive statistics and between-groups comparisons were performed (α = 0.05). Results: The physical activity levels were significantly lower in individuals with stroke when compared to matched healthy individuals, considering all dimensions. The between-group differences in activity duration, frequency, and intensity were 74 minutes/day, 5,274 steps/day, and 2,134kJ/day, respectively. Conclusion: Individuals with stroke users of the Brazilian public health system have lower physical activity levels in different dimensions of physical activity than matched healthy individuals. The assessment of the physical activity level of post-stroke individuals is important for decision making in public health programs.

ABSTRACT: The use of periodontal surgery to treat the condition of gummy smile is an essentially aesthetic approach and plays an important role in raising the self-esteem of patients. Effective treatment requires identification of the best technique for the correction, and the long-term predictability of the procedure. Objective: The aim of this study was to conduct an integrative review of scientific evidence relating to the periodontal surgery techniques used to treat gummy smile. Method and Materials: According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria A total of five (05) articles from the PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases were analyzed. The majority of cases found featured women, and the average age was 26 years. In most cases, the predominant surgical technique was based on the use of gingivectomy with osteotomy, with a follow-up period of around 6 months. Conclusion: This review revealed a serious lack of controlled and randomized clinical studies into the use of periodontal surgery to treat gummy smiles and highlighted a need for longitudinal clinical studies, with greater evidence, about the best type of periodontal surgery for this purpose.

O objetivo do estudo foi investigar a influência da natação sobre as alterações morfológicas do músculo esquelético em processo de reparo após criolesão. Foram usados 45 ratos divididos em cinco grupos: controle (n=5); sham (n=5), adaptação (n=5), criolesionados e tratados com natação sacrificados após 7, 14 e 21 dias (n=15); criolesionados e sem tratamento aquático sacrificados após 7, 14 e 21 dias (n=15). As sessões de natação foram realizadas 6 vezes por semana com 90 min de duração cada. Ao término do protocolo os animais foram sacrificados e a análise morfológica da área da lesão foi realizada. A análise morfológica semiquantitativa demonstrou que os músculos do grupo controle apresentaram aspecto histológico normal. O grupo sham apresentou edema, mionecrose e infiltrado inflamatório em grau 1. Nos grupos 7, 14 e 21 dias, não existiram diferenças estatisticamente significativas nas 4 etapas de remodelamento tecidual avaliadas (infiltrado inflamatório, edema, necrose e fibras musculares imaturas) entre os grupos lesionados quando comparados aos grupos com lesão e tratamento aquático. Em conclusão, foi possível verificar que a natação não causou alterações morfológicas durante o reparo do músculo esquelético após criolesão.

The aim of study was investigate the influence of swimming on the morphological changes in skeletal muscle repair process following cryoinjury. There were used 45 rats divided into 5 groups: control (n=5), sham (n=5), adaptation (n=5), cryolesioned treated with swimming and sacrificed after 7, 14 and 21 days (n=15), untreated and cryolesioned sacrificed after 7, 14, and 21 days (n=15). Animals swan for 90 min/ each session and 6 times a week. At the end of the protocol, the animals were sacrificed and morphological analysis of the lesion area was performed. The semi-quantitative morphological analysis showed that the muscles in the control group exhibited normal histological aspects while the sham group exhibited edema, myonecrosis and inflammatory infiltrate grade 1. In groups 7, 14, and 21 days, the results indicated that there were no statistically significant differences in four stages of tissue remodeling evaluated (inflammatory infiltration, edema, necrosis, and immature muscle fibers) between the injured groups compared to groups with lesion and treated with swimming. In conclusion, it was verified that swimming did not alter morphological aspects of skeletal muscle during the repair process following cryoinjury.

O feijoeiro é uma das principais culturas do país, e o Estado de Minas Gerais é um dos maiores produtores, representando cerca de 15% da produção nacional. O objetivo deste trabalho foi testar o desempenho de linhagens de feijoeiro comum cultivadas nas épocas das águas e do inverno, na região do Triângulo Mineiro, Minas Gerais. No cultivo das águas (semeadura em dezembro de 2005) e do inverno (semeadura em maio de 2006), as linhagens/cultivares testadas foram BRS Horizonte, CNFC 8059, CNFC 8065, CNFC 8075, VC-6, VC-7, VC-8, VC-9, VC-10, VC-11, VC-12, CNFC 10443, CNFC 10453, CNFC 10476, MA-I-2.5, MA-I-8.9, MA-I-18.13, RC-I-8, CV-46, CV-55 e Z-22, além das testemunhas BRSMG Majestoso, Pérola e BRSMG Talismã e VC-3. Em cada experimento, o delineamento experimental foi o de blocos casualizados com 25 tratamentos, em três repetições, a parcela útil foi de 4 m². No cultivo das águas, os rendimentos das linhagens mais produtivas variaram entre 2,69 e 2,78 t ha-1 (VC-9 e VC-10, respectivamente) e, no inverno, alcançaram 3 t ha-1 (3,01 e 3,00 t ha-1, CNFC 8065 e Z-22, respectivamente). De maneira geral, as linhagens foram mais produtivas no cultivo do inverno, embora a interação entre linhagens e época de cultivo tenha indicado desempenho distinto entre elas em relação à época.

The common bean is one of the most important crops in Brazil, and Minas Gerais state is one of its largest producers, representing about 15% of the national production. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of common bean lineages cultivated during the rainy and winter seasons in the Triângulo Mineiro region, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. In the rainy growing season (sowing in December, 2005) and in the winter season (sowing in May, 2006), the tested lineages were BRS Horizonte, CNFC 8059, CNFC 8065, CNFC 8075, VC-6, VC-7, VC-8, VC-9, VC-10, VC-11, VC-12, CNFC 10443, CNFC 10453, CNFC 10476, MA-I-2.5, MA-I-8.9, MA-I-18.13, RC-I-8, CV-46, CV-55 and Z-22, in addition to the controls OP-NS-331 (BRSMG Majestoso), Pérola and BRSMG Talismã and VC-3. In each experiment, a randomized block design was set up with 25 treatments and three replications with a useful experimental plot of 4 m². In the rainy growing season, the yield potential of the most productive lineages varied between 2.69 and 2.78 t ha-1 (VC-9 and VC-10, respectively), and in the winter season achieved 3 t ha-1 (3.01 and 3.00 t ha-1, CNFC 8065 and Z-22, respectively). In general, the lineages were more productive in the winter season though their interaction with the growing seasons indicated distinct performance between them according to season.
